When purchasing a show quality cat be sure to ask your breeder if they have shown, where, and if their cats are titled. There are many breeders (of all breeds) out there who sell "show quality" cats who don't even show or have champion cats. There are also breeders who say they show but haven't. In our opinion a SHOW person is someone who is showing on a CONSISTANT basis or an average of at least once a month. Someone who HAS shown a few years back or once is NOT a show person.
In our opinion, if a cat is not good enough to be shown, then it is usually not good enough to be bred. One of the most depressing thing I have run across while showing, is a person so excited about their new show cat and judges telling them it's not. Ask you breeder for show references! ESPECIALLY if you are buying a show cat or kitten. Your breeder should have titled cats and have placed cats who have titled. Many people talk a good game and will be HAPPY to sell a show cat for 500. If the price is cheap, then odds are the cat is too and won't be competitive. For a REASONABLE show quality cat you should expect to pay on average 1200 to 1800. The higher the price, the better the cat. Be sure to protect yourself and ask for a contract guaranteeing the quality of your show cat. If your "show" cat does not show well or reach the certification your breeder promises, make sure you have safe guards to get your money back or a replacement cat!
Also IF you are buying your cat as a breeder, DEMAND a pedigree UPFRONT before you purchase the cat. I would be very wary of a breeder who cannot supply a pedigree. JMHO ~
